Hey Long Beach,How ya doing? Things are crazy good around here. The in-stores are flying at us fast and heavy, including Rick Springfield, James Supercave, & Run River North all this week, plus a birthday party for George Harrison and a Book event with Tim Grobaty and Alan Rifkin (and a reprise from our pal 8 Good Fingers).

There’s another in-store on the verge of dropping in, and a couple more great ones just a little ways out, so stay tuned.

New releases have been a little concentrated – not too many, but what there is is pretty solid.

Please join us for what you can, and keep an eye for some upcoming announcements. Me, I’m gonna get back to ordering Record Store Day stuff. If you want to save that date, it’s April 16th.

RICK SPRINGFIELD – Live In-Store Performance
Friday, February 19th 7:00pm

If you had told me, way back when I spent all my free time hanging out in record stores, that one day I would be telling you that Rick Springfield is coming into play at Fingerprints, I would have said “what’s Fingerprints?” Then I would have said how do I get in, and damn that’s cool. Read on to see how, then join me in talking about how cool it’s going to be to see Rick on our little stage. Heads up, this one is dangerously close to capacity, so waiting will not work out well.
With a career that includes stints as a singer, songwriter, producer, author and actor – Rick Springfield is not only a household name, but also an entertainment icon. On the 19th, Rick will be bringing it back to where it started, celebrating the release of his new album, Rocket Science.
We are excited to host him for this very special acoustic performance, followed by an opportunity to get your copy of Rocket Science signed.Light This Party Up

Let Me In (Acoustic)

We have opened the guest list with purchase of Rocket Science and there are less than fifty spots left. RSVP/pre-order in person or by calling 562.433.4996. This will be a capacity event.

Saturday, February 20th 7:00pm

Call it a battle of wits, or the clash of the titans, if you must, but we’re going to call it a party with two of Long Beach’s finest essayists, some killer tunes by our pal 8 Good Fingers, and a great opportunity to think, laugh, and celebrate our local community.
Long Beach’s new publishing powerhouse Brown Paper Press has delivered two excellent new books; Long Beach Press-Telegram columnist Tim Grobaty’s I’m Dyin’ Here: A Life in the Paper, and noted author Alan Rifkin’s Burdens by Water: An Unintended Memoir. Both are rich with insight and humor, and if their past readings are any kind of guide, it will be an evening not soon forgotten.
8 Good Fingers, aka local boy makes good music, Kirk Jordan, will be providing music from his recently released ep Sensible Shoes, which hearkens back to the glory days of power pop, when bands like the Raspberries, Squeeze, and Elvis Costello ruled the radio.Food and drinks available at Berlin.

This is a free event, with no RSVP required.

JAMES SUPERCAVE – Live In-Store Performance

Monday, February 22nd 7:00pm
After years on various “Bands To Watch” lists and stirring intense critical anticipation for their official debut album, James Supercave have delivered; Better Strange was released this past Friday on CD and LP on Fairfax Records. Since their digital ep from last year, “The Afternoon”, fans have been looking forward to this release and drawing comparisons as diverse as Radiohead, Jeff Buckley and Foster The People. With precise art-rock production, the album flows into a variety of psyche-pop sounds, ballads and post-modern glam rock all accompanied by the dramatic vocal range of lead singer/guitarist Joaquin Pastor.
We are happy to announce the band will be here to perform an in-store performance and signing.

The first single off the new album.
Better Strange – The animated video that started the buzz.
This is a first come, first served with RSVP event, so if you’d like to come see the show, just drop in or give us a call and we’ll get you on the guest list. Pre-purchase of Better Strange will get you priority entry and poster.

Thursday, February 25th 7:00pm

This year would have seen George Harrison celebrating his 73rd birthday, and not coincidentally it’s the release date for the CD and LP of the George Fest tribute recorded last year at the Fonda Theater.  The night included performances by Britt Daniel of Spoon, Norah Jones, Brandon Flowers, BRMC, Ben Harper, Brian Wilson, Karen Elson, Cold War Kids, Flaming Lips, Dhani Harrison, and many more, all playing the songs of George and The Beatles. We’re going to play a test pressing of the vinyl, give away a few lithos with purchase, and throw down some birthday cake. Come join us, it’ll be fun. No RSVp required, drop by and tune in.

RUN RIVER NORTH – Live In-Store Performance
Saturday, February 27th 2:30 pm

LA-based Run River North will release Drinking From A Salt Pond, the follow up to their 2014 debut, which reached #3 on Billbord’s Heatseekers chart. Working with producer Lars Stalfors (Cold War Kids, Health, Matt & Kim), the band leave behind their familiar folksy roots to craft an ambitious rock album.

“This album embodies, more distinctly, the voices of each member of the band. The first album was about my view of family,  and the world and the rest of the band responding to these stories. This album is everyone’s individual responses to our collective self-reflection – with each member speaking through their rhomeespective instruments to express the relationships within the band rather than my folk stories wrapped in harmonies and swells,” says frontman Alex Hwang.
With a nearly sold-out debut North American headline tour, Run River North are enjoying being a bit of a thinker’s media darling; with features on several NPR programs and PBS’ Artbound, as well as Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Last Call with Carson Daly.

Check out the song 29 here.

Run River North would fit nicely on a mix tape with Death Cab For Cutie, Alt-J, Matt & Kim, and Cold War Kids.We are opening the guest list for this event with RSVP, but no purchase required. Pre-order of Drinking From A Salt Pond will get you priority entry and a free poster, created especially for this event. RSVP in person, or by calling 562.433.4996.

  Internet Trawling
Interesting flotsam that washed up on our desktop

Dead & Co. – Miss the Dead & Co. show on New Years? Check it out here.
Dave Alvin – Dave was good friend of the late Bill Morrissey, who was a tragically under-appreciated songwriter, anyway Dave played one of Bill’s songs shortly after he passed, and the intro brings it all back to Long Beach. Dave plays Inside, and we couldn’t be happier to hear this version, along with the intro/memory. Here’s a live show Bill did in 2007, if you want to dig a bit deeper.
Bowie’s Band – The New Yorker Radio hour has a nice feature on the guys who made up Bowie’s band for Blackstar.
Steven Malkmus & the Jicks – Live at the Quiet Music Festival in Portland. Lots of covers, including Pink Floyd, Nirvana, and Minutemen.
Jackson Browne – Jackson stops in at NPR for a Tiny Desk Concert, and unsurprisingly, he kills it. Will someone talk to him about an in-store here, please?
Flea – of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, speaks to Rolling Stone about why he’s supporting Bernie Sanders for president, and about their bernefit show that happened over the past weekend – hopefully you were able to catch it.
