Matt Embree – Live Performance with Meet & Greet – May 9th at 6:00pm
Whether you know it or not, you probably know Matt Embree, maybe it’s as the frontman of RX Bandits, as The Walrus in Sounds of Animals Fighting, or for his work with Dispatch, but it could be his numerous contributions, either playing with or producing, with artists from the worlds of hip hop, alternative, art rock, progressive, and psyche rock, including Seekret Socyetee, Coke vs. Bills, Pebaluna, Love You Moon (who played an incredible in-store on 4th Street), and Biceratops, among others… or maybe it’s just as the “quiet as his music is loud” guy who lives down the road. You see, among his many world-stage endeavors, Matt is also a local (Seal Beach), who’s celebrating his new solo album, Orion, and unsurprisingly, it’s a sampler platter of all the cool stuff that he’s into; trippy, hooky, groovy, layered and slightly out there – Orion is at once both fresh and familiar. Point your streamer to the track “Miscellium” for a taste of just how heady this mix is. It’s got modern hip-hop production elements over a base that is at once a bit dreamy, a bit dance-y, but also weirdly nostalgic. Attempting to pin down Orion’s sound in a few simple sentences is near impossible – it fights the leash, has no interest in the cage, and doesn’t give the impression that it’s overly worried about what you think (arguably the most obvious call back to Embree’s punk roots). That said, if you’ve earned your Sound Explorer badge, you’re gonna want to check this one out.
If you would like to attend this special event to celebrate the release of Orion, there is a free RSVP request option below. Anyone who places an order for Orion from our website will get a priority entry and a wristband for the meet & greet afterwards.
